The Sweetnam psychology ApproachI believe healing is a human process, not a clinical one.
Therapy shouldn't feel like a transaction.
For too long, therapy has slipped into hierarchical structure. A ‘teacher/student’ dynamic focused on a the clinical manual, leaving patients often feeling more instructed than understood. My aim is to recall what is meaningful: two humans connecting on equal footing, working in collaboration toward a shared goal.
I will bring the clinical experience, process, and evidence-based framework that can be trusted through science. You will in turn bring your truth, history, and internal knowledge of self. Therapy becomes a collaboration, rather than a lesson. One where we build understanding through shared ideas, postulate and challenge hypotheses, and where your disagreement becomes a driving vehicle for true understanding.
Because you are the expert in the room.
Sweetnam Psychology was founded on a simple concept:
A practice that is both clinically sharp and profoundly human.
A Focus On Accessibility
Something I noticed early in my work as a therapist is that many people who want to access therapy are working 9–5, juggling families, or carrying responsibilities that they simply can’t step away from without stress or financial risk.
I hold a sincere belief that people shouldn’t have to choose between their mental health and their livelihood.
That’s why Sweetnam Psychology offers after-hours and weekend appointments across the Gold Coast and Tweed Coast with no additional fee. For many of my patients, having flexible times simply makes therapy possible. Making space for your internal world should feel achievable, not like another demand added to an already full life.
Accessibility also means meeting you where you are. For perinatal and postpartum support I offer in-home psychology sessions across the Gold Coast and Tweed Coast. For those who feel more grounded in nature or struggle with traditional indoor sessions, walk-and-talk therapy is available for those seeking a Gold Coast psychologist or Tweed Coast psychologist working outdoors.
No matter the format, the intention is the same: to make tending to your needs feel possible, supported, and within reach.
Clarity with CompassionWarm directness is a form of kindness.
I will not make you guess what I am thinking. I engage with you, ask hard questions with deep empathy, and believe that clarity is the fastest path to change.
Guiding principlesWhat I know to be true.
Your Wisdom FirstYou are the expert on your own life.
You are not coming to me to be told what to do. You are coming to me to be guided back to the wisdom you already hold. My role is to provide the process, the framework, and the safe space for you to untangle the noise and hear your own voice again.
Strength in RelationshipHealing happens in connection
There is a shared, fundamental humanity that connects us all. The relationship we build in our therapy space is one of trust, safety, vulnerability and zero judgment. It is a privilege for me as your therapist to walk with the real you.
